Just heard on the radio, Noah Mina was found dead. His family made an announcement, I don't have any details. Sad ending.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 29, a crew of searchers aboard a helicopter spotted the body of missing hiker Noah "Kekai" Mina.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at about 6:35 a.m. a search group made up of West Maui watershed employees, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) personnel and a pilot from Windward Aviation found the body of a male, thought to be that of Mina.

Mina was found about 400 feet below a fall line in the summit region of Mauna Kahalawai. This area was only accessible by helicopter as Maui Fire Department Rescue crews needed to be dropped in to retrieve the body.
Noah Kekai Mina's body has been recovered

How sad. I had a feeling they weren't going to bring him out alive. I hope that he's at peace

Wow, it seems that hiking accidents aren't unusual in Hawaii. This really gives one pause about going out hiking alone in more remote areas.

It's never been a good idea or something to take lightly. People should only hike/backpack/ski etc. alone, especially away from established trails, if they know and are willing to accept the risks. I believe that limits should be in place for the amount of taxpayer-funded search & rescue that will be sent out for people who head off trail into wilderness. A few states already do this, and will bill rescued people under certain circumstances.

This time a social media post 'clarifying' what she went through, and an apology.

Yoga Teacher Apologizes After Disappearing in Hawaii Forest for 17 Days: 'I Was Irresponsible'

Quote:
After her 17-day disappearance in the Makawao Forest Reserve in Maui, Hawaii, Amanda Eller is apologizing for being “irresponsible.”

In a seven-minute video uploaded on Facebook, the yoga instructor, 35, described herself as an ill-prepared hiker when she recalled how she got lost in the forest.

“I wanted to stay out of the limelight but feel I need to make a statement to clear up some misunderstandings,” the video began, with Amanda resting on a couch and showing her injured, bandaged legs.

This lady should just stop and go back to her life. No one is interested in her tale.
