No, there were not any signs. There were two signs warning people, but both were blown away during Hurricane Matthew in 2016 and never replaced. According to the article, it is the responsibility of the Army Corps of Engineers to replace the signs.

My sympathies to the families who have lost a father and loved one in this situation.
On one hand, this generation's parents get accused of helicopter parenting and then when you decide you want to lambaste a parent, you say that they're not close enough to the action? And I won't even dig into your "ignant" blast which I think we can all guess why you chose to reference that form of BEV/Ebonics.

When tragedy strikes, I don't think we need to rush to criticize the very parent that passed away without having sufficient information. In my opinion, he's a hero that will be forever missed by his family, and all indications are that this parent was an involved, caring parent who actively took his children to the beach and who knows what other activities. We should be mourning the loss instead of denigrating the person.

Me and my wife got stuck in a rip current once. It first dragged us towards some rocks, I managed to get on the rocks, but she didn't so I jumped back in. At this point the current was going out towards the open sea.

I realized that it was impossible to swim against the stream, so instead I started to swim away from the rocks. That worked, and I told her to do the same and we swam back to land. A kid could have easily drowned in that situation, and this was on a popular beach.
