Terrible, I never knew seagulls would do that.

People who have small dogs have been warned to keep their pets inside after a chihuahua was snatched by a seagull from its owner's back garden.

Gizmo, a four-years-old chihuahua, is still missing after a bird swooped down and carried the animal away in its beak.

Well seagulls have been known to prey on moles or small rabbits. Perhaps it was a teacup chihuahua?

Seagulls are such scavengers, they will eat or take anything they can carry.

Seagulls carry their food in their beaks.

And yes, if this was a 1 or two pound chihuahua (hard to tell from the pic, but it does look tiny), yes.

Oh wait, I see the article said beak. You were the one who thought claws, I guess.

It was reportedly a "miniature" chihuahua.

I will believe almost anything of a seagull. I have had food stolen a couple of times at the beach, and once it was a pretty big bag of bagels. I wouldn't have thought a gull could fly off with that, but it could.

People with tiny dogs need to protect them as they would any other prey animal like a pet rabbit. Depending on where they live, they may not be able to let that tiny dog outside alone ever. It may not be a gull swooping by, but a hawk, owl, fox, etc., also sees that dog as a nice, appropriately-sized piece of meat.

Just one of many reasons I prefer dogs that are big enough to protect me rather than the other way around.

I can't imagine why you'd decide it never happened, especially given your apparent lack of experience with seagulls, believing they carry their pray in their feet/claws.

I've spent a LOT of time at texas beaches, and yes, they can carry stuff. Like, for example, the large steak you just pulled off the grill or the large catfish you just landed and got off the hook.

And that's exactly what the article said. "Carried away in it's beak". Webbed feet were not needed. Seagulls can be kind of vicious. Good thing WE are bigger than them. lol
