And yet you clicked on the thread anyway. You must not be as sick of it as you tell yourself.

I do think the tabloid media has wasted a lot of ink on this family. However, I actually agree with a good part of what the Kennedy family stood for.

There is no curse on the Kennedy family. It is simply a large prominent family that deals with ravages of many common ailments such as depression, drug use, and alcoholism. Ted Kennedy's alcoholism lead to the car accident that killed Mary Joe Kopechne. Affluence in wealthy families sometimes leads children to engage in dangerous hobbies and pursuits. An example of this was JFK Jr. who was killed flying a private plane.

There is a certain risk to any presidential candidate or president from mentally unstable people who can gain ready access to firearms.

Many large families have had similar experiences with mortality. It is not a curse. It is simply the way life works.

I didn't know they had a history of depression (did they?) but back in the 1940s, their daughter Kathleen was killed in a plane crash in Europe, not because of bad luck. Weather conditions indicated that no one should be in a plane but she tried everywhere until she found someone crazy enough to fly. She took a terrible risk and paid for it with her life

Her brother Joseph Jr was killed during WWII. He was supposed to go on to be president but his younger brother JFK had to take over and fill his shoes. Maybe just bad luck but it was a war, after all.

JFK took a risk in Dallas by demanding to ride in an open air car with no bullet proof bubble top. Crazy. And another example of risk taking.

Many of the rest of them were always in trouble with their drinking and carousing. One of JFK's cousins was sent to jail for murdering a neighbor girl.

I don't know how to sum it up but I used to think it was due to a lot of risk taking, false bravado, overly confident. If that's part of it, where did that come from? Having money? Joe Sr telling them how great they were? (Just wondering.) It's sad about this girl but drugs are everywhere.

But back in those days, the bubble top was just for weather. It was not bullet proof and JFK seldom, if ever, used it unless weather necessitated it. So Dallas was his usual mode.

The serious bullet-proofing of the top and the rest of the car's shell came after and, as a result of, 11/22/63.

This is not true. This was the Skakel family . Ethel Skakel was married to Robert Kennedy.

Most families don’t deal with assassinations even one let alone too. That is what makes the Kennedy family distinct from other wealthy families who have tragedies and led to the curse moniker. The Kennedys have had more than most.

Yes you’re correct, no politician then took precautions the way they do now. Even the president.

Read the whole story on how Joe Jr. died, it was not a normal mission, he was to bail out of a remote controlled B-17 after arming an explosive device and before he could there was a premature detonation.

A high risk venture not attempted before.

Yes, those were innocent days. Times so different that there was nothing at all unusual, naive, or stupid about being innocent.

Although it was not the first Presidential assassination, times being primitive as they were informationally, relatively little was known or talked about regarding those previous events in history. Nothing like that had ever happened in the young lives of those of us who will never, ever, forget that day. So, for practical purposes, it was as though it had never happened before. And it was the most shocking day for most of us that we would experience in our entire lifetime.
