Two-time Oscar nominee Peter Fonda, who became a counterculture icon when he co-wrote, produced and starred in seminal 1969 road movie “Easy Rider,” then showed Hollywood he could act about three decades later in “Ulee’s Gold,” died on Friday from lung cancer at his home in Los Angeles. He was 79.
His sister Jane Fonda said in a statement, “I am very sad. He was my sweet-hearted baby brother. The talker of the family. I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days. He went out laughing.”
I thought he was great in both Easy Rider and Dirty Mary Crazy Lary.
We just went to see the 50th anniversary release of "Easy Rider" I thought he was great in it. I was too young when it was first released, & my parents would not have allowed me to go see it. ( born mid 50s )

Yes I first saw Easy Rider about 10 years ago. Fantastic film.
I wonder if he just played himself. Not too much on his movies but loved him in Escape from LA and then there was some solar disaster mini series which, while the movie was questionable, he seemed to be having a good time playing his part.
I remember reading an interview with him years ago when he said that he was sitting in a barber's chair getting a haircut and reading a magazine, and that's how he found out that his mother's death had been a suicide.

I read it was a diner, and someone pulled out the obituary he had never seen. Either way, I can’t imagine what a sheltered life one would to have, not knowing for 10 years that their mother had killed herself, in such a way, too. Goes to show how the media wasn’t as big a part of everyday life back then.
