Which is NOT to take away from the fact that he was given Fentanyl instead of antibiotics. Someone done effed it up.
Fentanyl is like the grim reaper of painkillers. Many deaths due to it. It had no place in treating an infection, flu etc.

I wouldnt be surprised if Fentanyl was used on purpose...considering how they are trying to demonize this drug today!!

I'll be shocked if he wouldn't have passed away anyway. He was in bad shape

I agree, they are demonizing Fentanyl unjustly.

One of my dogs had major surgery and was given a Fentanyl pain patch plus one refill. I am glad he had it.

Wish I could have had Fentanyl patches after my surgery.

It is a safe and effective pain killer as long as the patient is given the right dose and it is used as directed.....just like any other medication.

If Fentanyl killed this man it is because he was a poor candidate due to his condition, he was overdosed, it was mixed with other drugs it shouldn't have been mixed with or a combination of all three and the fault lies with hospital personnel who made mistakes.

Clearly, it was something beyond a cold.

Everyone really needs to read the facebook account of what happened. He was in really bad shape when he got there

Deon walked into Bakersfield Memorial Hospital around 3pm and was rushed to the back and it was said that respiratory rate was barely at an 50% level and his organs were already beginning to fail due to “some sort of infectionâ€. Medical staff started an IV gave Deon Oxygen. The staff stated that they would be administering some 4 different types of antibiotics to fight the infection that was taking over his body.

Yes, Ive used the Fentanyl patch, it works very well.

I was hoping people would be smarter than to fall for this, looks like we learned nothing from the days of 'Reefer Madness'!

There was a recent headline about police discovering a shipment of Fentanyl from China, in an attempt to make it seem 'really scary', they made sure to mention it was enough Fentanyl to KILL an entire city full of people!

Im surprised they havent tried to connect Fentanyl with Satan or devil worship yet! LOL

The family needs to get an attorney. Whether or not they want monetary settlement, which I suspect they deserve, they need to know exactly how this man died. A lawsuit would force disclosure of the procedures.

Lets remember that people do put off going to the doc with pneumonia, and that this can lead to death. It sounds as if this man put off seeking treatment, but it also sounds as if he got poor treatment when he did seek it.

I found the FB account well stated. The family shared their experience and what they were told, as they understood it. Something went wrong, and they need need to know more.

But the fact that ER staff took this guy back immediately for treatment tells me he was in bad shape when he walked through the door.

I agree they should get a medical malpractice attorney. Something stinks for sure since he passed away at 4:30 but the family saw him being worked on 3 hours later. They were covering their butts.

I also agree he was in really bad shape when he got there. I wonder what the odds are that he would have made it had he not been given fentanyl?

I'm curious about how the switch happened. I would think it would be visually obvious, the differences between an antibiotic and a pain killer IV pack.
