None of my local fast food places have indoor seating right now. They're all doing fine.
Honestly, I don't think I've ever been to a McDonald's or inside a similar fast food place where anyone was eating inside except for the elderly coffee crew or teenagers. McDonald's probably found that it wasn't worth the expense or risk to employees to keep the dining area open and sanitized when the per head dollar amount would be fairly low.
Back when McD started, all restaurants were dine in only. Times have changed. Yes, their core mission is to make money and they are doing that...with drive thrus and delivery service.
They started with carhops. They tried to do away with indoor dining but as they grew they had to keep up with demand.
Yes chain restaurants have been surviving the pandemic by using drive thrus and delivery. And in areas where restrictions lessened or ended they have opened their dining areas. They will do what it take to keep customers and if customers want to come in and sit down to eat they will open their dining areas or customers will go elsewhere.
Locally, I don't know if they are open or not, but all the fast food places have signs out that they are hiring, so maybe some of them can't get enough employees to run the kitchen and cash registers and to do all the constant and extra cleaning and disinfecting.
I think that has something to do with it. Apparently lots of places are having trouble finding employees.
But, I don't think the theme was "all day". This was such a problem in NYC some stores closed. People would buy a 75 cent coffee per table and hog all the seating all day. Nothing more frustrating than going to a fast food place and there is no one eating, no chairs, just people typing or talking. Especially if you have kids.
Yes I remember that now.
People in NYC must have more time on their hands.
yeah, nobody forced them to have dining areas. they did it because it made sense. im sure it will make sense at some point in the future, especially if a competitor offers it. there have always been people eating in fast food places whenever i visit them. dining in is a situation that works for people in a variety of scenarios.
Apparently tons of people. There are like 14K restaurants in the US, and they have restaurants in at least 24 other countries. The McDs brand is worth over 143 billion dollars.

Yup! And they also pay me a dividend every ninety-one days -- just wish I'd recognized that opportunity sooner.

Ours are closed for dine in. Their parking lot is full of cars with people eating in them tho.
I suspect the crew needed is considerably smaller and it may well be far more profitable to be drive thru only.
Same with our Taco Bell. The line was 30+ cars last night. Drive thru only.
For a time maybe. If I see 15 cars backed up I drive right on by. Ill get gas station chicken or hotdog before Ill sit in that for 45 minutes.
Wonder how these places are fairing where there is mostly foot traffic and those whose largest customer base are travelers along interstates and highways. Lots of traveling folks want to get out and stretch and use the facilities while taking a food break.
