Their parents... if they have any... are responsible.

Again, they have not been sentenced and they will not get 16 years or even close to it. That is the max possible sentence for the crimes they were charged with, that's all. It's like saying "the max possible sentence for theft is 12 years". If you have a clean record and stole a box from someone's porch, you're not going to get 12 years. They might not get any jail time. Daughter probably wont get anything beyond probation.

I agree. Mom plotted this. The daughter had little choice.

I also do not think it's that serious of an offence. Nothing compared to the mother in Texas who attempted to have the mother off another cheerleader murdered so that her daughter could make the squad.

Would law enforcement even be involved if this was a generation ago?

Except that she accessed these records from her cell phone and from her personal computer...and who knows how secure those devices were.

That being said they probably won't get more than a slap on the wrist. I think 2 years in prison for the mom and one for her daughter is fine.

There wouldn't have been computerized records and privacy laws related to computerized records then, so it's a moot point.

I’m assuming this was a joke article,as literally no judge would even consider this before tossing it out for frivolity. Likely some bored intern mocked an article up.
