You saw the same meme I did obviously. At first glance it is appalling for sure but we have to realize the age of the individuals. They exist for a reason, a 13 and 15 year old brain does not compute like someone who is older. Still a terrible miscarriage of justice.
Their parents... if they have any... are responsible.
16 years?! Holy ****ing **** did they murder someone?
Again, they have not been sentenced and they will not get 16 years or even close to it. That is the max possible sentence for the crimes they were charged with, that's all. It's like saying "the max possible sentence for theft is 12 years". If you have a clean record and stole a box from someone's porch, you're not going to get 12 years. They might not get any jail time. Daughter probably wont get anything beyond probation.
The mother deserves prosecution as she is the one who hacked the school's computer (she was a school employee). The daughter was doubtlessly under her influence.
I agree. Mom plotted this. The daughter had little choice.
I also do not think it's that serious of an offence. Nothing compared to the mother in Texas who attempted to have the mother off another cheerleader murdered so that her daughter could make the squad.
Someone is taking their High School traditions wayyyy too seriously. Sixteen years for cheating during a popularity contest? Seriously?
Hacking a government computer is a serious crime. They should be severely punished. Should the intention of just effecting the homecoming instead of ID theft or whatever make a difference? I say no.
That being said they probably won't get more than a slap on the wrist. I think 2 years in prison for the mom and one for her daughter is fine.
I’m assuming this was a joke article,as literally no judge would even consider this before tossing it out for frivolity. Likely some bored intern mocked an article up.
