Signs of the times, I guess. Even the realtor remarks that we've got to get a handle on home prices:

Happens here, too. Most houses go under contract within a few days of listing.

This is not new. Our friends house just listed yesterday for 800k. Already had 6 showings scheduled for today and it went up at 2pm

People were knocking on doors and asking when houses were going on the market around here. Multiple offers over asking within 24 hours often within minutes. We'd possibly sell if we wouldn't be moving into a similar market.

Here's the reason right here:
Quote:
"People are so desperate for a home under a particular price point," the agent said.

Yeah, but that house won't sell for a low price. Everyone who wants it for asking price will be outbid - by a lot I suspect.

Sellers did themselves no favors listing so low. High traffic for people who won't be able to meet the going price. Shame on their realtor for this.

We are getting an easy 20-30 offers on a decent home when they hit the market. Many are going 20% and more above the list.

I expect this will happen with the home next door. My neighbor passed away at age 91 and we've been waiting for the home to be listed. It's a nice, solid brick rancher built in 1964 and a lot of work was done to it prior to listing. The pictures show it just beautifully - the gleaming hardwood floors alone are a major selling point and it's priced at just under $300K. There's an open house tomorrow (although there have been showings already) and I imagine the crowd will be sizeable. All the neighbors hope someone nice buys it!
