No petting ZOOs are not always lambs and goats and often feature exotic animals like camels, ostriches, alpacas, Llamas, zebras, etc., sometimes monkeys, deer, bears, snakes, etc. Not all the animals are available for people to pet.

Good heavens, our local agricultural fair has a camel ride every year. They also have another camel just to look at. I wonder if they'll reconsider having the camels there now.

First bears and now camels.

A camel doesn't need hooves to injure someone. They are huge, quick and powerful, with a long neck and legs. They can whip that head out a long way to bite viciously and unlike a horse or cattle, kick those long legs in multiple directions.

Reminded me of a trick supposedly Bedouins used to outsmart a raging camel. When they had to deal with a particularly nasty one (such as a bull in breeding season) they'd wear a ragged robe over their clothes. If/when the camel lost its temper and attacked, they'd back off, shedding the robe in the process. The camel would attack the robe, mistaking it for the wearer underneath. It would rip the thing to shreds and feel somewhat sated. Then the man would approach and start all over again.

The world isn't any different than it always has been. Its 'way past time humans learn that animals are not people. They aren't going to behave like a human. You need to understand, accept, and respect them (including any history of mistreatment at the hands of other clueless humans) for what they are.

They could have llamas, if they want camelids. I think some petting zoos do have llamas. Or some llama ranches are open as petting zoos.

I rode on a camel at the regular zoo, once, when I was little.
I did at the circus.

Well then it's not a petting zoo.

It's a zoo that has an area that's a petting zoo.

But this is really too silly to argue. Were these camels in a petting zoo, or not? If they WERE, that's gross negligence, IMHO.

From Wikipedia:

A petting zoo features a combination of domesticated animals and some wild species that are docile enough to touch and feed. In addition to independent petting zoos, many general zoos contain a petting zoo.

That could be. And somehow, the camels got away from the adults managing them.

Camel, the cigarette brand, was apparently saying in reaction: "That's nothing, we've killed many thousands".
