The actually video from before and after is crazy! This is the worlds highest drop tower ride and the ride attendant doesn't even check the seat belts? Some riders are still questioning the attendant about it when the ride takes off. You can hear, possibly the 14 year old, boy clearly saying "no" along with others, as the ride takes off.

It doesn't have a seatbelt... Which is why I did not get on it when I saw it.
The similar ride at Busch Gardens has a seatbelt that goes through the legs and buckles into the shoulder restraint. Unless EVERYTHING fails, you can't fall out of that.
This is just poor design, and there is no excuse for it. A shame... Because ICON has been rapidly becoming a great alternative for those who don't want to pay theme park entry fees and be stuck there all day with hordes of crowds and insane queues.

Then I wonder what the kids, on the ride, in the video, were referring to? The ride is new so having a 14 year old fall out means something went seriously wrong. I can't tell from the video how he fell out.

The kid was apparently quite large - he was a football player. Going by a close photo, the shoulder harness didn't go down far enough to buckle into the bottom strap from the seat. When the ride slowed halfway down, the momentum of the kid allowed him to slide right out from under the harness and the seat.

There was no bottom strap. The harness locks when you pull it down. From one picture I saw, it looked like his body habitus prevented the harness from being pulled down all the way - so it never locked. That’s why you should always have a belt strap as an added safety measure.

Exactly. There is no reason for it NOT to have one.
That manufacturer (Funtime), I think, is going to be in hotter water than the park, as it appears this design is used in their other skyfall rides around the world...
Anyway... I like ICON park... I go there sometimes with my kids, and have gone on a date or two there. I saw the harness to this ride and said "nope."
