Her version of events seems to be quite different from what the employee states (seen in the video).

Oh, and as always and forever, the infamous McDonald's hot coffee case is NOT a case of a frivolous lawsuit. Have to mention that since people, to this day, still perpetuate that falsehood.

Well, the coffee was spilled on her by an employee, and she spent three days in a burn center because of it. So it sounds legit to me.

Correct 100%. That McDonald's lawsuit was not frivolous.

This one isn't either, or so it seems from the information out there right now. She was burned over 30% of her body. That's serious.

I've always told my hubby those cardboard cup carriers are dangerous and someday someone's going to get badly burned by one.

And who hasn't had one of those flimsy cups start to collapse when you pick it up because the cap wasn't tightened down?

Thanks for going ahead and posting that, SG. When I saw the thread title, I automatically just assumed someone would bemoan that Mickey D.'s lawsuit.

I don't drink coffee anymore, and when I did, I made it @ home.

Is that how hot it is? 169 degrees F it said in the video when they took a random temperature reading.

Sounds a bit much, imagine 200 degree coffee in your neither regions, no thank you!

The employee claims she was eating something so she grabbed the tray with one hand, tried to put it in the other seat, and spilled the coffee on herself. She said/he said.

Eating and drinking in a car is hazardous for a lot of reasons.

I've always hated those shallow cup carriers. They aren't secure at all. The attorney at the end of the video was correct. Those flat folding carriers are much safer. Seems to be they would be easier to store as well. And probably cheaper.

Why would you spill any liquid, any time on you?

And then to be awarded a handsome sum of money for doing it to yourself..... ridiculous.

But, like someone said, we've been down that road before and no amount of whining and crying is going to change people's minds about the clearly over the top outcome.

Who do you sue when you spill your home brewed cup? Keurig? whoever made your coffee cup? The bean roaster? Whoever you got your water from? They all had a hand in it.

I use one of those flavored milk like creamers. Caramel macchiato, its so good. Black coffee is horrible. So I guess I am preventing severe burns.

Get coffee from a drive through, accept the risks. Thats what life is, a bunch of risks. Don't want the extreme slightest possibility (but still a possibility) of getting burned? Avoid what may cause it.
Quite simple really!
The world doesn't need to hold anybody's hand!
