Most likely they were into stealing catalytic converters. That's about the only thing you could steal out of a junk yard and carry on a bicycle.

What?! How did you come to that conclusion? Have you read something the rest of us haven't? If so, please provide a link.

I'm trying to picture how four healthy men who went bike riding together might end up dead in a river. Surely all four didn't mistakenly ride their bikes into the river and drown. Foul play has to be involved. No bikes have been found in the river, so it either isn't the four missing men, or somebody stole their bikes. Could the men have been murdered just for their bikes? Unfortunately, yes. It's a sick world.
Sounds like Deliverance-type story

Yes, it does. Very creepy. I guess we can't rely on "there's safety in numbers" anymore.

All depends on who the enemy is…

Their phones pinged at two different junk yards. You can assume they were there to steal something and catalytic converters would be the logical choice due to their size and value.

"He says the men were believed to be together, they visited a salvage yard west of Okmulgee, then stopped at a Murphy's gas station, then stopped at a different salvage yard near Schulter, where Mark Chastain's phone either died or turned off."

Considering they visited a salvage yard (or were there two?), I think they were up to more than just a simple bike ride. There was something else going on. A drug deal? Who knows.

The phone coincidentally died when they reached the salvage yard? Or was switched off? By whom? That sounds worth investigating.

From a report.... "At least two men were believed to have cell phones with them. Police were able to trace the path of at least one phone to the east of town and then south, but the phone eventually was turned off or lost power, police said.

Data indicates the phones went to two salvage yards – one about 5 miles from the river, and the other about 10 to 12 miles from the river, Prentice told CNN on Saturday. "

Does this mean the men had split up to go to two different salvage yards,,,, or does it mean all four of them went to two different salvage yards together? How does "phone data" even determine this stuff if none of the men made a phone call?

If they had split up, and were murdered in two different salvage yards, it means someone drove all the bodies to the river and dumped them in?

This gets creepier and creepier.

I saw nothing about bodies found in a river, must be another article.

This has to be foul play. They may have come upon a drug deal, may have been robbed & killed by addicts, or one or more may have had enemies out there gunning for him/them.

Four people don't just vanish in normal weather, riding bikes around their own town.

Well, we could speculate all kinds of things. Their bike rides may never have been simple bike rides. They could have been reconnaissance missions for whatever: salvageable auto parts, copper wire, whatever, anything saleable and stealable. Could have been part of a secret drug business, picking up product and delivering it to customers. Let your imagination run wild; all kinds of things are possible. And one day, it all backfired on them.

But to their families, they were 4 guys who liked to get fresh air and exercise together.

Sure thing.
