A fascinating story for sure.

I think he realized the end was near and wanted to be where he felt most safe and at home for his last days.

An Iranian man who lived for 18 years in Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport and whose saga loosely inspired the Steven Spielberg film “The Terminal” died Saturday in the airport that he long called home, officials said.

Mehran Karimi Nasseri died after a heart attack in the airport’s Terminal 2F around midday, according an official with the Paris airport authority. Police and a medical team treated him but were not able to save him, the official said. The official was not authorized to be publicly named.

Stuck in the airport for 18 years? Must have been flying United.

(Sorry, couldn't help it. RIP to Mr. Nasseri.)

Court cases in the following years ruled that while he couldn't legally be expelled from the airport, he also couldn't be given permission to enter France.
His stay in the airport ended when he was hospitalised in 2006, and he went on to live in a Paris shelter.

What did he do with the $250K?
