I was thinking about this last night. Now I wish the guy didn't run away. I wish he would have stayed in the passenger's seat because I would have loved to hear his explanation how the dog was speeding and how the dog didn't listen when he told it to slow down.

As crazy as this story is, what's crazier is that the dog claimed he didn't know anything about the dead body in the trunk.

Good news for the dog... "The dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning."

But what breed of dog? One of my dogs is pretty smart, she might be able to figure it out, except for maybe manual transmission.

This sounds more like a Florida Man story, are you sure it's Colorado?

I was expecting the perp to claim he thought it was his wife who was driving.

Indeed!

In New Zealand they were actually training rescue dogs to drive (Google or Youtube search "New Zealand Driving Dogs")

In Australia, rural farmers and livestock owners actually have dogs help out with the work and chores. Here's a video of a Jack Russel Terrier driving the hay wagon for the farmer/rancher....

Well, there's an orangutan who can drive a golf cart without human aid. He can handle his alcohol better than the dog:
