NEW DELHI -- A government official in India has been suspended from his job after he ordered a water reservoir to be drained so he could retrieve his smartphone, which he had dropped while taking a selfie.

Over the next three days, more than 2 million liters of water were pumped out from the reservoir, which is enough to irrigate at least 1,500 acres of land during India’s scorching summer, local media reported.

India is one of the most water-stressed countries and extreme temperatures had led to severe water scarcity, causing crop losses, forest fires and cuts to power.

Maybe, but if it did only a rare and severe drought could make it discoverable. Chances are by that time he will be old or dead. It would be similar to finding that so-and-so owed this much to so-and-so in the ruins of Pompeii. I'm taking a wild guess by saying that's one thousands of years old debt that will never be repaid. Imagine being so powerful that you can order an entire reservoir to be drained and it goes done. Too bad for this guy, he won't be in such a position any more.
