So I'm going on vacation... is there any service provided in the Irving area so I can leave my cat and pick it up when returning?

thanks

Yes they are called "kennels". Do a google search for "Irving TX kennels".

lol

your vet also probably kennels pets.

I will tell you as a cat and dog owner...cats do not "kennel' well they stress out etc... Best bet is to have some come in 1x per day (we do 3x per week since cats are more self relaint than dogs!) check food water and clean litter box.

If that's not an option... maybe look for a cat only kennel.

I am sure there are probably 5-10 kennels within a 15 minute drive of your house.

try a pet sitter. They will come to your home and take care of your pet. We have dogs and they need to be let out 2 times a day, but I would think a cat maybe needs to be checked up on every other day, and only 1 time a day at that?
We have a pet sitter in McKinney, but I am sure that you can find one in Irving?

I've never found a professional pet sitter who was willing to come only every other day even for a cat. They all insist on every day because they say it's in the best interest of the animals. That is obviously true although I have left my cats alone for a couple days before and they were just fine with lots of food and water and an extra litter box.

In my experience pet sitters are actually comparable to or cheaper than kennels, especially if you have more than one pet, and they'll water your plants too.

Now luckily I have a friend who takes very good care of my "kids" so cat sitters don't get to push me around anymore.

Most vet offices have someone who does pet sitting. Call your vet and ask. As another poster mentioned, cats don't do well in kennels, they do best at home.

pet smart which has several sites around DFW has cat spaces and dog kennels--and they do a doggy daycare at most of them

there are places that do cats only--but they are not as easy to find

just make sure you get your cat sitter from a bonded agency...that has a good record on BBB

but do you not have a friend who could come by every other day for 20 min...that is probably all it would take

Cats do MUCH better when they are in their own surroundings. Many times, cats will not eat or urinate when they are boarded, which obviously creates problems. Call your vet, and ask what in-home pet sitters they recommend. Many times, their technicians do pet sitting, too. It is also usually significantly cheaper to do in-home care vs. boarding.

Is there a family with a responsible teen that lives in your neighborhood? This would be a great job for them ... bring in your mail, water your plants, check on kitty ....
