I think there was an earlier thread about this but I can't find it. Sorry if this is a redundant question.

What is the property tax rate in Lake Highlands and Lakewood areas? Is it all about the same rate for the areas surrounding WRLake for areas below the 635 and East of the tollway? Or does it vary?

We are toying with the idea of buying a house. We'd rent short term, given we can find a short term lease, when we arrive and start looking for a home to buy in that area. My husband is concerned about property tax though. I wonder if a purchase as a better way to save, especially if we are going to be there for at least 3 years at the minimum.

It's the same rate for the whole City/County of Dallas. You can look up the amount paid on the house you are interested in on the Dallas Central Appraisal District website.

Check out Dallas Central Appraisal District.

If you are looking in Lake Highlands, you will be paying taxes to RISD, as LH is served by Richardson schools. The tax rates have not yet been set for 2010, but 2009 RISD was taxing on $1.34 per $100 of appraised value, where as DISD was taxing on $1.27 per $100 of appraised value.

I seem to remember you saying you were looking in Old Lake Highlands and Hillside(Lakewood). If that is still the case, you would be in DISD. As a rule of thumb, no homes south of Northwest Highway are in RISD.
