I am wondering where we can buy property with some land, in a good area, that is within commuting distance to DFW. My DH now travels 2+ hours each way to work (70 mile each way). We have been transferred to DFW from LAX, and do not want to ever have to deal with that kind of commute again.
Thank you,
MBG

So what kind of commute are you looking for? 1 hour or less? A bit over an hour? I assume your dh is going to be traveling out of DFW Airport frequently or works there? Then what kind of price range are you looking in? Do you want brand new homes? Existing homes? Horses? Deed restricted or not? There are PLENTY of areas that would fit the 1 hour or less w/ acreage just depends on the other things to try and find the right fit.

We would prefer under an hour, as much under as possible. Yes, he will be working long hours at DFW.
I do not care if it is new construction or not. View is important, as well as enough room for animals.
BTW what is deed restricted?? I have got a lot to learn!!

Deed restricted means that what can be built has certain requirements that must be meet. Some areas even though they may be outside of a city limits may still be in an area w/ deed restrictions. Kind of like a homeowners association architectural guidelines but without the dues. They can dictate minimium size of dwelling that can be built, how many per acre, type of buildings, animals allowed or not, etc.

What's your price range? Homes with acreage and horse facilities can be really pricey.

Fairview has some nice older homes with land. Parts of Fairview are also in the Lovejoy school district which is pretty well respected.

Fairview also has a huge new mall going in near the 75 (closer in than where the acreage lots are), which will add value to the area and push taxes down.

Thank you

For some reason I read that and thought you had horses. What kind of animals do you have? Whether you have horses or not, I would recommend the Keller area. It's 15-25 miles from DFW airport and there are several properties with an acre or more of land. Some of them heavily treed. A few of the areas also allow horses.

No horses yet, but being that I grew up with lots of animals, I would really love to have that option.
Here in Cali we could never afford enough property to even think about it!!
Right now the only farm animals we have are ducks.

I'd definitely stay on the west/northwest side of the metro which will be closer to DFW. Keller (Tarrant County) was mentioned but you can also check out areas further west in Weatherford (Parker County just west of Fort Worth) which is very popular with airline crew members. Many drive the 45 minutes to an hour commute but they love it and they have acreage and larger homes. Northern Denton County is still fairly rural (again, more airline crew in smaller towns like Krum, Sanger and Pilot Point) where you can buy acreage and Wise County, just west of Denton County and north of Tarrant County, is even more rural (Decatur) and still within an hour drive or so to DFW. Bridgeport in Wise County is actually located near Lake Bridgeport and has some views and is very rural too.
