I am relocating early next month to the Dallas area and will be driving in from Chicago.

Mapquest suggested a route going 55 to St. Louis - 44 over Springfield to Vinita - 69 to 75.

Should I really take this route or should I go 55 all the way to Memphis and then hit 40 to Little Rock and 30 to Dallas?

Going to Memphis is a LONG way out of your way...the route Mapquest suggests is much more direct.

I have taken both routes multiple times. Memphis route is much more scenic and the traffic is faster. There is always some construction in St. Louis

I like the route thru OK personally and that's how I go.

The mapquest route is the most direct.

It is the most direct, however traffic and construction through St. Louis is a killer...Plus (and correct me if I am wrong, haven't been this way in a while) there is a section of 69/75 that is not limited access. It remains 4 lanes, but not a true interstate, and is also well known for speed traps-not that you'll be speeding or anything!!!

true about 69/75, but I still find it the fastest route even with having to slow down for towns in OK. I wish it weren't the case for us because I'm actually pretty sick of this route! LOL

i just drove Chicago to Dallas last week (tue, wed) via the Memphis route and hit absolutely no traffic at all. look out for speed traps though, as i saw a ton of unmarked police cars pulling over speeders.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I do have a bit of a lead foot, so I will be on the lookout for speedtraps etc.

Is it still legal to use a radar detector?
