Would people knowledgeable about GISD mind giving us some input?
We are interested in GISD for one academically/musically gifted and one artistically gifted son (who may need special ed services, but it's still early to tell).
We need info on new(er) homes in the price range of 200-300K.
Husband will be in DFW over the next couple of weeks and will be able to look at the recommendations.
It's really difficult to figure things out being from out of the area so we really appreciate the input!
We have tried connecting with realtors, but they tend to be very biased depending on where they live or sell.

Thanks so much everyone!

Im gonna' take a stab at guessing Garland? I have read that they have a wonderful gifted and special needs program in that school district. If so, I can only tell you what others have told me. (We, too, are relocating from somewhere else and have been researching DFW for the last few weeks).

Firewheel community in Garland is a newer master planned community. Probably at the higher end of your price range- not sure how big of a house you are looking for.

The 75044 zip has new/newer houses

Avoid Oakridge area (I did not note the reason...Im literally reading from my clip coard).

You can search this forum for "Firewheel" and a thread a started should come up. Maybe there is more details there for ya'. Good luck!

There is only one spot being built right now IN the city limits of Garland that has new homes that could fall into your price range. That is Provence at Firewheel.

Firewheel

There are areas in Sachse in the GISD that have new builds as well that would fit your price range.

Rowlett TX Homes for Sale & Rowlett Real Estate - Zillow

If your looking for GISD GARLAND - don't forget ALL the areas it serves. Rowlett has homes that are in your price and newer range.

GISD is a great school district- good programs offered at every school.

Places to consider:
Garland
Rowlett
South part of Wylie
Sachse

If your looking for more wide open spaces;
North Murphy area
Parker
Lucas

Also keep in mind your price range also comes with high property taxes. So make sure you consider that with your purchase. No matter where you purchase you will pay high property taxes. Some places are more or less then others.

When we moved back to North Texas several years ago we too had a high price range but after looking at homes and talking with our realtor our amount we were willing to spend lowered a lot- we didn't want a $250,000 house with $5000-$8000 taxes due every year. So we settled to live within the means we were comfortable in.

Good luck to you.

If you are trying to get into any special program in any district, make sure you can actually get in. Sometimes you have to apply early and the programs fill up well in advance of the start of the school year. (I don't know about Garland ISD in particular.)
