I ran into a Portrait Home the other day and loved it. Then later on, my friends show me a rating chart. Grand Homes is in the middle, but Portrait is almost in the bottom 10%. Of course Huntington is No. 1.

Is Portrait home that bad?

Any comments?

I'd like to see the chart. Grand is the annual winner of last place among builders on most polls. One year they came in 2nd to last but that only lasted a year.

Where did he have his info?

Portrait Homes is teetering on the brink, probably not going to be in business much longer - at least that is what I heard just this morning from a 'reliable source.'

I really question the results of this survey. I never thought I'd see the day when KHOV or Standard Pacific have a lower rating than KB or History Maker!!!

Very different products, very different customer expectations, one caters to first time homebuyers the other to previous owners (therefore more picky) imo.

They don't say how many surverys were turned in for each builder. Many of them require the buyer to fill the survey at closing which makes the buyer a bit uncomfortable to complain. I really think that the numbers are skewed.

Some people hold this company to be the holy grail of information. However, you may want to take a look at this website:

Too Much Power? - 11/1/2007 - HousingZone.com (http://www.housingzone.com/article/CA6496558.html?q=jd+powers - broken link)

Plantation Homes is 12th from the bottom, for example, but named Top 24 Builder in the Nation (& they only build in Texas) according to Builder Magazine. I know no other world where F&J would come in next to Sotherby.

Hope it helps,
T. Hayley
