Hello,
I'm planning on moving to Dallas in the near future, I'm sick of the cold weather in the Northeast, i'm a family of 4 (2 kids ) , I'll appreciate your valuable inputs. My questions:
- Which area to focus in on for buying new home from a family perspective ?. Need safe , good schools etc..
- I'm a computer engineer , which areas are the IT jobs in Dallas area ? How's the job situation nowadays ?
- How's commute situation in Dallas area ?

THanks in advance.

I would look for a job first and then decide where to live. The DFW metroplex is HUGE and if you pick it wrong, your commute can be horrible. Good luck.

I agree with TC80...job, then house.

Rent an apartment in Plano, Las Colinas or the Mid-cities for 6 months. Get a job, find a knowledgeable real estate agent with seasoned experience and find a home.

Keep in mind DFW covers about 4-6 counties and has over 6.5 million people. The roads are good but crowded with a commute of 40 minutes normal and a newer home with a large lot is hard to find.

If you haven't already, you should post your resume to places like Career Builder or Dice.com and be sure to express your desire to move to Dallas. My husband is a techie too, a business analyst, and he gets daily calls/emails from recruiters. Usually several a day. You might want to consider getting a local PO box and local phone number so that recruiters will contact you about jobs in Dallas.

My husband's last two jobs have been in Irving, as there a lot of businesses that need someone with his skills.

North of the Tarrant or Dallas County lines.

It's called the Las Colinas Business District. There is a very high concentration of tech jobs in LC along with the Tech Corridor in Richardson (Plano) areas.

IT....I guess it depends on your expertise....Richardson has high concentration, Plano has a number of Fortune 500 and Irving has RIM, Nokia, I2, Siebel, MS and many other tech companies.

Commute....find the job first then find the city to live in. You pick the wrong city and then find the job is a mistake. You buy a house in Wylie and get a job in Ft. Worth, the drive might be a couple of hours. City is very spread out here and if you work business hours, there is traffic.
