Famous for its chicken salad - the guacamole not so much.

Unfortunately, special assessments seem to go with the territory with CC memberships...Most equity clubs have them all too frequently as there is a bit of "keeping up with the Joneses" mentally amongst members and a pool, clubhouse, course, you name it upgrade at one, usually triggers a round of assessments at all!

I considered joining the Sports Club at Four Seasons Las Colinas recently, but the dues are too high for me. The golf initiation fee is $55,000 and $645 monthly dues, tennis is $3,000 and $305, fitness is $2,000 and $270.

Amen!! My relative is kind enough to invite us to the Lakewood for Easter, July 4th, Mother's Day, etc each year and we enjoy it!

Back in the midwest and northeast/ new england, private CC's are very popular with the upper middle class and above.... having just moved here from Ohio, I was surprised that there were not a lot of country club planned communities here - but now that I think about it, only about 10 % of the 400 families from my old club were big-dollar founders with full-blown golf memberships - the rest of us had jr golf memberships that also offered pool/tennis and fitness center access. We had yearly dues of $10k/yr and $500/month food&beverage mins - which gave us all a really strong incentive to golf, eat in the club house, go to the pool and attend the weekly get togethers..... all told it was a nice time for the family and as noted by a prior poster, it worked because it was only a few blocks away from our home... would not have done it if we had to schlep it further

when I look around my neighborhood, I see that everyone seems to have a "backyard paradise" of their own.... whereas in the aforementioned areas, it is a tough call to put $50+k into a backyard pool/spa and only use it for 4-5 months / year

The highest rated course in the metroplex is Dallas National Golf Club which is absolutely stunning. We also belong to Brook Hollow which is great for families but hard to get accepted into. There are so many great options that will not take forever to get into. Lakewood is great, so is Stonebriar or Garland. It basically depends on what you like: tennis, golf, family fun, etc
