Is anyone else thinking that the OP might just be roiling the waters with some of these comments--
many of them seemed designed to create animosity and create senario of someone sort of shirking responsiblity for personal decisions
Reading that post by the OP about hiring managers being in a "bad place" when the economy turns around--
what adult would really say that--with or without having a college degree--
think it is just setup

Don't think so about this being a troll; have heard similar bitter comments about employers hiring "over qualified people" from job seekers in my professional life. Look, the situation is this person is at the end of her rope with her lifeline being $1800 a month uei (which will run out but probably is portable if she moves) living in a place where she is convinced -- right or wrong -- that she won't find employment and the cost of housing is eating up her only income source. How or why she is in this position is less the issue than how to crawl out of it. Sometimes a physical move does make sense if only for the fact that is brings a renewed energy to explore solutions. And, honestly, even a minimum wage job does provide the income here in the DFW area to rent an apartment more easily than in her present location. I don't oppose the concept of coming and making a try at finding something. Taking that action is better than feeling stymied where she is. Only, only, only thing I really recommend is not schlepping a child along during the job search. OP, if you were in any way related to me I would take your child for a few weeks. Now, you must know someone responsible who can take her while you do this job search in a new city. There must me an aunt, a special teacher, a former coworker, someone on her dad's side........

I agree. This is not a troll. This is a desperate woman who is very frustrated that the "rules" she grew up with no longer apply in a post-Great Recession world, probably not unlike Americans who were content working in farming/agriculture jobs until Post-Great Depression/ World War II, the country swiftly moved to being an urban economy vs rural.

She's far from alone in feeling this way too.

And I think things are going to remain exquisitely difficult for folks in her or similar shoes more or less from now on-.

You WILL lose your unemployment if you move from CA to TX. Eligibility for UI is determined by prior work experience in the state, and since you have none in Texas, you aren't eligible for UI here.

Bottom line: I would get a roommate, or move in with family, and stay in CA. I just don't see how you are going to make it here.

I worked for UI or Employment Development Department in CA for 17 years. The OP can live out of CA and still collect her UI. CA UI will travel with her. I do agree with her type of job market and her bad credit, she faces a huge gamble. But I wish her well. I too, just wish she had family or close friends to watch her daughter, it would be so much easier.

Yes, would be a great move for you. Cali unemployment at 12%, Texas at 8%, that is a BIG 30% difference. You can get a nice place to live for under $1000 mo. in many parts of the metroplex.

Honestly, here is an idea and my friend did this exactly...Around Little Elm and Aubrey there are some pretty good mobile home communities that you can get a nice place for $600 a month. Good schools too and you can keep the dogs..Your credit situation should not be a huge issue and your $1800 a month income might keep you going until things get better..Just my opinion, but I know it worked for my friend and his family......
Try www.indeed.com for Dallas area jobs...plenty there

I would like to know if there are many single men in the dallas area over 40? Thanks! I'm thinking of moving to Dallas because I'm originally from there, but I'm single.
