There are really two distinct sides to Cedar Springs, in Oak Lawn. South of CS is highly hispanic with some renovation and new construction and is probly not preferred right now, excepting for gated development.

North of CS has the 'better' streets, much more new development and is highly preferred. At the northern edge of this side are the duplexes, the last three streets next to Highland Park.

You can find 1 bedrooms probly from $500 (maybe even less) to $800 or more, depending on age and location. You can get into a duplex for $1000 to $1500.

I would suggest getting a digital camera and a cell phone, drive the streets, take pictures and call the number on the 'For Rent' signs, to inquire. Most of what's around here won't be found on the net or in a rag.

I rented on Bowser at Knight North of Lemmon. My rent for a early 80's studio was about 700 plus utilities and such. For myself I moved to N. Dallas, Preston and Preston Oaks, and am Much happier here and have a full 1 bedroom mid 90's apartment in a great complex for just a little more.
