I worked in Irving and lived in Arlington for about 8 months in 2010 and took the 161 toll road EVERY day... Both ways. I have also driven to Frisco about a dozen times. My car has California plates (it's in my father's name) and to date we have yet to receive a bill.

The tolls will catch up to you eventually. NTTA charges $25 per toll late fee on ALL tolls. So your original bill could be as low as $4.00, but if that consisted of 6 tolls, the new bill could be as high as $154.00. They will keep adding late charges!

Rental cars, some rental companies WILL not pay the NTTA tolls, instead when the bill comes to them they will eventually forward it on you and by then you have the late fees attached. I know ifyou search on here there was a thread about it.

The NTTA computerized phone system is very hard to nagivate etc...
I don't think it is that high. I have lived out-of-state for 2 years and came back in June to 2 or 4 unpaid tolls I had no idea were on my account. Ended up being $15 with the late charges.

I thought out of state cars were allowed to use the toll roads without being billed if its occasionally. I can see where if it is daily for a long period they might go after someone as it would appear they are residing in Tx but did not get Tx plates. My neighbor has a car with fla plates since she has a home in fla as well as west plano. I will check to see what her experience has been.

My friend has Louisiana plates and never received a bill....and he's been here almost 4 years now. He said if you RARELY use it they will let you slide. Not sure how true this is.

It often took months for them to be billed, then pay, then bill you. There was talk of finding a way to end that practice, hope they did.
We had a rental from Enterprise and they billed us for the tolls about two days after we turned in the vehicle. Since they have your credit card on file- and you sign the agreement they can do that.
They didn't change any outrageous fee though.

They were supposed to not charge people with Veterans plates. I know Houston does not. Over the years it appears that they are very inflexible and show no common sense in dealing with public.
