My Husband makes 18/hr driving (and lucky to have it) but he's BRAND new (only been doing this a month or two). Bear in mind as well that the cost of living is also very high here (Two regular adults eat $600 a month in groceries, and a 100 year old, 700 square ft P.O.S house with an active railroad track running through your backyard sells for 330k .. its very different up here. )

Honestly, he'd be happy with less than 18/hr .. because it would still stretch farther than it does in our city.

She mentioned they were planning to move to Cedar Hill...you can find VERY affordable nice houses in that area that are nowhere near $330k. Cost of groceries is relative too. When I was frugal, I spent $100/week to feed 4 of us. There is no grocery tax here either, so coming from a state that charged 8% tax on groceries, I actually spend LESS here on food!

My goodness tell me about it. The house we own we purchased in Cedar Hill for 50k. Where we live currently, we would have paid 400-500k for it, depending on the location. So essentially, we bought it for the cost of a down payment. It boggles the mind

I travel to Oregon to visit in laws yearly (and I hear tell Oregon is more expensive than Texas) after seeing the cost of food in Oregon, then returning home to Vancouver Island.. I made my husband do the grocery shopping for weeks, I'd get so frustrated seeing what we paid.

And the taxes thing blows me away. With 38% of our income going to income taxes alone, and sales tax at 12% .. well, it doesn't take a mathematician to see the numbers don't add up.

I love B.C., but I'm really warming up to the idea of moving to Texas.
