Rather than go into a neighborhood you're not familiar with, usually large malls have some sort of halloween event, with trick or treating from store to store. Check on the mall websites of whatever big ones are closest to where you'll be staying...

Where are you staying? Any nice neighborhood in the area will have trick-or-treating? Also, lots of the bigger churches hold "trunk or treat" events in their parking lots.

It's great here and insanely crowded - they expect many hundreds; maybe thousand trick or treaters. The decorations are amazing and totally over the top wonderful...mainly between LaVista and Fitzhugh.

Avalon off Pearson is good too in a much smaller way.
Munger Place is very popular too.

Swiss will be swamped, but it's probably worth it if you don't mind the crowds - many of the old mansions are decorated and have live productions. Avalon and Lakewood Blvd would be sort of the same without such huge crowds. I took my neice on Lakewood between Lakeshore and the lake a couple of years ago and it was great fun. That would be 6900-7300 blocks.

Live productions? That sounds like it's worth a drive.
