Uptown, Downtown, or Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff. All will have some crime (mostly petty) as it is a big city. Suburbs have crime too, btw. These places will be about a 20-30 minute drive to your work depending on the day.

They are also FUN places to live with lots of entertainment options (pro sports, art museums & galleries, great shopping, tons of restaurants & bars, theatre/ musicals/ other performing arts, etc). They are neighborhoods who literally exist to cater to young single professionals. Don't do Arlington. Suck it up and commute so you can enjoy where you live.

This is a great landlord in Bishop Arts District in North Oak Cliff. 1 br's from $650-900+. Right in your budget & very well maintained. Walk to the best restaurants & fun shops!

In Uptown, you will have a harder time staying within a $900 budget. Check Craig's List out, but you definitely are priced out of the bigger properties managed by Post, Gables, AMLI, etc.

Downtown, you can get a studio apartment in the Manor House buidling for around $900. It's a young, fun building. Have friends who have lived there.

Some of the studios in the Wilson Building downtown (right across the street from the Neiman Marcus flagship!) are also within your price range.

There are some other lofts & buildings downtown that should also meet your needs if you search.

We've named them. There are good & safe neighboroods within 20 minutes - Cedar Hill, parts of South Arlington, etc. But they aren't for singles.

You're going to have to pick whether you want the easy commute or the singles-oriented neighborhood. Unfortunately, with a job in GP, you can't have both.
