I would like to apply for a Texas DRivers license.I am 26.never had a license in any other state. Can I walk in and just set a time to take the drivers test. Or will I be required to take a written test as well.
If I do need to take the written exam, there is online courses like the dps online exam, if I do take it will I still be required to take the written exam at the dps? Or can I then just take the drivers exam?

You need to walk in to a DMV office, show them your Birth Certificate, your old DL, pledge your first born, Bow to the person behind the counter and PROMISE you'll never drive like a moron. [OK everything AFTER your old DL is a joke]

The link provided by RockyJoe817, above is good but I didn't see a the 'over 26' issue addressed, other than following the same procedure as a new application.

NOTE: Anyone age 18 through 24 who does not have a valid driver license from another state or country must also provide proof of Adult Driver Education (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/driverlicense/adultdrvredandsafetycourse.htm - broken link).
You can submit an inquiry online @ https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/Driver...ice/other.aspx to ask the same question. I've used that link to ask a question and got a fairly prompt reply.

You'll do well to review the entire subject at the DPS link as you'll have some paper work to do and will need to have documentation with you before they'll even smile at you and say, 'Howdy'.
