I will be re-locating to the Dallas area, from Northern california in a few months and am doing some pre-planning...not sure which store I am going to open...but have my eyes on Plano...the other ones are on lower greenville rd in Dallas and one in Fort Worth.Which area do you like best and why?
When looking at the maps...as I am an avid Bass Fisherman I noticed the large lake near Garland/Rowlett....how bad of a commute would it be from that area(Garland) to Prescott Rd in Plano?

I appreciate any info on the area and am looking forward to bringing Trader Joe's to Texas

And we will be very glad to have Trader Joes and you here!

Personally, I think the Fort Worth location is better. It will be on the SW side of town off Camp Bowie blvd. which is a really fun neighborhood and close to lots of restaurants, museums, etc. Cost of living in FW is less than in Dallas, too.

with the opening of PGBT eastern portion, not as long of a commute as it used to be. There's also Lake Lavon that's closer to Plano.

I am a longtime resident of the Lower Greenville area and frequent visitor to Northern CA - so I think you might enjoy our area. Search 75206, 75214 and 75223. Also look for posts about Knox-Henderson, M-Streets, East Dallas and Lakewood.

I have a good stash of TJ goods at home right now from a recent trip to CA!

oh my goodness we are so excited that Trader Joe's is coming. If you are used to Northern Ca I think you will be much more comfortable personally staying out of the suburbs like Plano, stick to Dallas. An area that is in desperate need of good grocery stores is the Uptown area.. If you could situate yourself so that uptown and the park cities would access it, you would be in good shape, but dont get too stuck in the park cities or you will alienate all the normal people, also park cities suck to get to and no one else likes to go there. Knox/Henderson/East Dallas has a newflower market and a whole foods, and there is a central market and another whole foods off 75, these would be your major competitors. You should probably live in Lakewood/M Streets (which is off of lower greenville) or maybe uptown, to find more diverse thinkers such as you are used to in No. Cal.

The drive over to Garland isn't bad at all (I live 5 minutes away from the future location of the Plano Trader Joe's).

Plano is a very nice city to live in, and in nicely located in the metroplex, in my opinion.

You can get to downtown, east Dallas (and Garland), west Dallas (and with a bit more time, Fort Worth) as well as north to McKinney, Allen etc all in 30-35 minutes.

Let me know if you need an employee.

To be honest, those are all great areas...just in different ways! If you could tell us a little more about the home environment you want (city v suburb, schools, new or older home, price range, community vibe, etc)...then we can direct you to which would be the best fit for you
