So I'm visiting friends in late March that live in and around Dallas. (Dallas, Tyler and Arp, respectively).

I have been trying to check flights but it seems like I can't find anything for less than $400 unless I leave on a Wednesday. I'm willing to leave anytime between 3/16 and 3/19. Might fly back to either NYC or DC (we are planning to visit friends in VA and I might just fly straight there instead of going back to NYC and taking a bus).

I found cheaper flights into Houston. I don't mind driving 4 hours, I've done it before when visiting other friends in hard to get to areas without a connecting flight. (Little Rock, Tallahassee). Is there a better option considering the locations I have to go? I've checked Dallas, Houston, Austin, Shreveport, and Oklahoma City with little success. Are there any cities or airports I missed? The cheapest I have found is $350 via Southwest to Houston.

Thanks in advance.

I fly NYC to Dallas pretty often. American has the best fares- out of LGA and into DFW. Can usually find something around $275-325.

IMO, it's not worth it to fly into Houston and drive to Dallas. You'll need a rental car and $60-80 of gas to do that roundtrip.

I would be leaving between 3/16-3/19 and returning 3/21 or 3/22.

When I plugged in those dates I got $367.

I tried Southwest, the cheapest flight was giving me 2 connections and was still almost $400.

I may just have to wait and see if the price drops.

You need to buy now- not wait. Or you will be driving for cheaper.

As someone who works in the airline business, I will tell you that $400 is quite reasonable from NYC to DFW. Those fares top out at over $3000 in economy round trip.

Forget Love Field and Southwest. You will pay the same and have to stop twice. Also forget Houston. By the time you pay for gas, you're paying a similar amount.

Ah I thought it might have been.

The alternative is to go after I get back from VA (which means 3/25 - 3/28) or just waiting until another time to go. I was hoping to just use a week off and hit both locations. But the timing may force it otherwise I guess.
