Hello everyone!

OK so i'm a native of VA and a Skins fan so it's going to be very difficult moving near Dallas. :-)
My potential office is in Plano and obviously I'm trying to do a little research in terms of places to live. I'm 41, white and single with no kids (small dog) and not looking to move into a huge family oriented neighborhood. Heck, if I take the job I'll probably be looking for a short lease on an apt or something. Dallas sounds like where all the nightlife is and things to do. Just trying to get a feel for whats out there. I currently have a mortgage around 1K. I put Richardson as my zip since that's in the middle of Dallas and Plano.

Any advice or suggestions is very welcomed.

tx,
jimmy

Strongly advise you to rent for a bit to get a feel for the area. Where in Plano? It's very spread out so where you'd like to be will depend on office. East west roads in Plano, despite being 3 lanes in each direction can be a beatch in rush hour. Sit in light cycles 3-4 times since North South have preference. Also a lot of school zones which crater the morning rush hours.

Narrow down your office location and there will be buckets of advice for you from us.

Thanx for the reply. Office is at intersection of 10th and Jupiter. I did notice a few apartment complexes near there...

There are a lot of apartments there but not much in night life. If that appeals to you then Richardson is better since it's closer to Dallas. I'll defer to others here since I'm an old fart and not much help on night life.

Since you want the nightlife you should probably get pointed to the uptown area to see if
any of the apartments fall within your budget.
Downtown Dallas has the professional sports, restaurants, clubs, public transportation/rail to plano,
just to name a few items. If you do not wish to commute all the way to downtown, then Richardson around 635/75 would be a midpoint.
An additional suggestion would be Loop 12 and Jupiter, you should be able to find an apartment(s) close in that area. Restaurants and clubs within a short driving distance.

If you want a nice quiet neighborhood with big trees and older homes, Richardson all the way.

If you want to be close to the 'action', you'll want to look Uptown or in the Village depending on your budget.

Thanks everyone...ggolf, rockyjoe, bigdgeek for all the tips. I obviously will have my wk cut out for me if i decide to take the position. I have been reading a lot of posts and it can get a little overwhelming and misleading as everyone seems to have a diff opinion on things. Nevertheless, please keep all the valuable info coming.

thanks!
