Hey everyone! I've been active on the Greenville, SC forum for a few years but am now making a permanent relocation to DFW for a career opp in Richardson. Seeking advice and opinions on areas to look at to live that wouldn't give me too much of a headache driving to work. I don't need trendy or downtown living - more or less looking for an a more suburbany-type area that is built up where maybe other young prof'ls might live (I am late-20's male). I'm not too much into bars/clubs but would like to get involved in things like a young prof'ls group (which I know a lot of towns or chambers seem to sponsor) as well as an active church or two (I go to both Catholic and large non-denom Christian). Plus I would like a nice town with a lot going on where I can establish a network.

So what's the scoop on areas like Richardson, Plano, Allen, Garland, Farmers Branch, Carrollton, etc. etc. - does any area sound more appealing to someone with my interests? Is there any benefit to being in one Metroplex County over another? Recommendations on any clean/newer yet reasonably priced apt. complexes? ANY help is much appreciated! Thanks!

Richardson itself is a great place to live and work. I think you would be really happy there.

Seconded. With your needs, high gas prices and our brutal traffic, consider Richardson first.

Plano or Addison would be good choices as well. Both will have the churches and other details you discussed. Also, both are farily close to Richardson.

As a resident of richardson myself, I would highly recommend you live here. THe benefit of this city is it's central location to everything. You have full access to the DART Train to get downtown to sports/music/dining, etc. Or you can drive in 20 minutes or less. Maybe you are not familiar with Dallas in general, but it is the bible belt and there are churches everywhere. I am in my 30's, I see many 20-30 somethings around Richardson as it is the Telecomm Corridor. There is a great apartment called Block 24 with "Hip" units in Richardson on Arapaho and Jupiter. It WILL NOT break the bank though. Nice pool, close to everything you need. Also, several other apartments right on the DART Line in Richardson and Plano.

As for young prof'l in the area, I feel confident you can get involved with that and be so very close to whereever they meet. Again, this is a centrally located place and all major areas are are a quick distance.

I happen to work in Coppell, by the airport. The traffic is crappy and the cost of the George Bush Tollway is almost 90 bucks a month for me. You should avoid having to take the TOll Roads and the less traffic the better. Stick with Richardson.

Feel free to PM me or Post more questions about this town, I have been here nearly 20 years! YIKES!
