West Plano was typically thought of as anything west of 75 for years, and anything on the east side was East Plano. Now however, since the creation of Plano West High School (which used to be Shepton, a junior high school), I'd say the dividing line is probably Preston Rd, possibly Coit. If someone can chime in who lives in the area between Preston and Coit and has a child that goes to Plano West, then Coit would be the dividing line. My parents live in that area, but Plano West didn't exist when I was in high school.

We're just about to relocate to Plano. As far as safety, I happened to run into a cop at Starbuck's & we struck up a conversation in line. He told me "Safety begins at home. You're in Texas now, you can get a gun." Hahah! Best of luck in your home search--I'm a Chicago native too. We made good neighbors.

Between Coit and Preston? Heck, you can be as far east as Custer/McDermott and still be zoned to Plano West. Defining that as "West Plano" is a bit of a stretch, though.

Everything west of Ohio is zoned 100% to PWSH, so that's a cutoff with no ambiguity.

There was 1 person murdered in Plano so far this year - which is a high number. Plano typically is high atop the list of the safest cities in the US considering it has more than 250k residents. There are no gangs to speak of. You don't need to carry a gun unless you just want to.

Yea, between George Bush and Spring Creek, the eastern most border for West Plano Senior High jumps back and forth between Ohio and Coit. But once you get north of Spring Creek, the border is all the way east to Custer!

This whole attendance area is not all called "West" Plano though (if the prestige matters to you). A good part of it is consider north Plano, with a few central Plano neighborhoods mixed in too.

Not anymore, it doesn't. Now it's just the area between Hedgcoxe and McDermott heading to PWSH. The stuff between Hedgcoxe, Spring Creek, Coit, & Custer (less the small Robinson portion) has been re-zoned (or, more precisely, UN-rezoned) back to PSHS.
