We currently live in Downtown Dallas, but would like to move our budding family into a home very soon. We have an 8 month old and hope to have at least one more. We love love LOVE the Oak Cliff area, especially Winnetka Heights, but we're concerned about the schooling options. Unfortunately, we can't afford to live in this area AND pay for private school.

Parents of Oak Cliff, where do you send your kids to school? Any homeschoolers in the area? Is Rosemont Elem good or bad?

The only good schools I know of in Oak Cliff is Townview (which is one of the top high schools in the nation) and Kathlyn Joy Gilliam (which is exemplary)

Some of the regulars will post about specific schools in OC. My read on OC is that some of the elementary schools are quite good but all of the high schools are more less terrible.

Rosemont Elementary is wonderful & has a lot of parent support and funding. Check out their website & you'll start to get a feel.

After elementary- in their current state- the neighborhood middle and high school choices are awful. Plus, what few NOC kids were in public elementary and go on to the area middle and high schools are suddenly mixed with a MUCH rougher crowd. Madison HS is rough; just drive by when school opens this month.

My take - you're perfectly ok until middle school, which means if you absolutely love the area and can buy in Rosemont's zone, your 8 month old can have a great 10 year run in NOC before you will need to consider applying for DISD magnet middle school or moving to a different part of town or to the burbs.

It might be good to join the Rosemont Early Childhood PTA. It would be a great place to meet neighborhood moms with kids the same age and discuss your concerns. You can join before you move. They probably have a moms night out, play groups, etc.

The elementary schools are great. The middle and high schools are not. Like stated you will need to go private or magnet school after elementary.

Rosemont is good and Kessler Park Methodist has a very good school through 6 I think. DISD magnet middle & HS are great. My kid did DISD for 12 years and was well prepared for SMU.

Madison is not in the OC, it's a few blocks west of Fair Park. Adamson and Sunset are your NOC high schools. Sunset for Rosemont and Winnetka Heights. But yes, your points are right.
