[TAX] Car Registration from Out of State (sales, insurance)

Hi I bought a car back in April 2012 from Carmax in Los Angeles, CA.

I'm always been a Texas resident but the car stayed in L.A.

I just brought the car home to Texas last weekend.

I got it inspected and insured and about to get it registered in the state.

I haven't paid the entire loan off yet (financing through CarMax).

My question is since I paid sales tax in CA, do I have to now pay Sales tax in TX when I register the car here?

The base registration fee in Texas is $50.75 plus $1 for TexasSure, the electronic insurance verification program, and $1 for improvements to the registration and titling computer system. So, total state registration is $52.75 but counties may add other fees to this cost. As a new resident, you also will pay sales tax-related fees required by the state's Comptroller of Public Accounts. Sales tax fees on a vehicle can be $90 or the difference between your previous state's sales tax and the Texas sales tax.
