For a suburban choice, the historic square in downtown Mckinney has a number of restaurants like that, great for people watching. Here's a list of all the ones I can think of that have front patios:

Spoons - cafe, sandwiches, etc.
Sauce - Italian
Churchills - traditional British pub & food
Rick's Chophouse - pork chops, steak, fish, etc
Patina Green - sandwiches/ soups, menu changes daily, all from seasonal and local produce (my fav for lunch)
La Misha - european bistro
Dawgs & Hawgs - bar (usually lots of bikers), bar-type food
London Winery - wine bar
The Pub - upscale bar w/food

No front patios, but also great choices on the square:
The Pantry - home cooking
Gregory's Bistro - french (my fav, but pricey)
Cadillac Pizza Pub
Square Burger
Cafe Malaga - tapas (no front patio, but their back patio is simply gorgeous)

Downtown Grapevine would probably also have some great options.

Stop by the Marquee Grill in Highland Park Village and have a drink on the upstairs patio. Lovely view, they still have their Holiday Lights up. Not sure how old you are or what you are into, but the flipside of that is the patio on the Barley House by SMU.

Sundown at Granada is on Greenville and has a street-level, and rooftop patio, and awesome food, drinks, and staff.

The patio at the Rattlesnake Bar at the Four Seasons on McKinney Avenue is great. Victory Park is nearby if you are into sports.

Meddlesome Moth has a nice patio and amazing food and beers.

Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum has a great patio, is near Deep Ellum Brewery, and Adairs for late night awesomeness.

The new Arts District restaurants are walking distance from Klyde Warren Park. Still can't believe they named it that.

Katy Trail Ice House is absolute Texas. If you like beer, that gravel patio with several wood fire pits, a running trail literally at the end of the patio, trees, and fun, go there!
