Follks, we heard from a broker that it takes 45 minutes to get seated in Plano restaurants because the are is so overcrowded, and that it can take 30 minutes to check out at supermarkets. This broker is urging her clients to look in areas such as Frisco, Allen, and Flower Mound instead of Plano. I know this sounds a little ridiculous, but I must ask...is there any grain of truth to what this woman is saying? Is it really that more populated than the other areas I mentioned? I envision that within 5 years or so, all of those areas will be just as saturated as Plano is.

Which leads me to my next question: Is Sunnyvale up and coming? It's located so close to downtown Dallas, has exemplary schools (and yes, I am aware that the high school is all of 2 years old) -- why is this town never mentioned by people who are looking to move to Dallas? Is it really so remote and "laid-back (the word that seems to be most commonly associated with Sunnyvale)? Wasn't Plano also "laid-back" about a decade ago?

Thank you for your responses!

Wow, that broker is a liar! I can't think of the last time I had to wait for a table in Plano. Most of the time just walk to the hostess stand and you get seated immediately. I was just at the supermarket tonight and checked out with no line.

Don't use that broker. She's simply making those stories up.

She is simply guiding you towards listinging which would benefit her in some way.

That's completely ridiculous. Not even close to the truth.

There's a difference between exaggerating something that's somewhat true, and telling a blatant falsehood like this. You really have to question their motivation.

In Plano recently, I think I've waited 45 minutes for a table ONCE, and that was a small, in-demand restaurant (Fireside Pies) on a Friday night. 30 minutes at the Grocery? Maybe at Central Market on Xmas Eve. Otherwise, no.

This. When we were relo'ed here, we had an unpleasant situation with our initial realtor fishing for builder kickbacks, and only very reluctantly showing existing homes. Sounds like you might be in a similar situation.

Very rarely did we wait over 15 minutes to be seated even on a Friday/Saturday night at any Plano restaurant that we didn't have a reservation for.

I often go to Wholefoods too and they are always busy but have plenty of check out lanes open. I am not sure where your broker shops or eats, but they're purely exaggerating the timing.

Sunnyvale is a quaint bedroom community. Very convenient to drive to downtown.

Sunnyvale is a formerly rural community that now has some typical suburban homes being built there. Unfortunately, the neighboring communities of Mesquite and Garland could hardly be considered "upscale" like Plano. If you are looking for quiet bedroom community, or a place close in to town that will allow you to keep a horse, Sunnyvale is great.

And I agree with everyone else who says your broker is lying...

Only time I see waiting lines at some busy restaurants is Friday or Saturday supper and grocery stores on Sunday evening at Red Lobster type places. But that happens everywhere including rural & urban places, at least you have plenty of alternatives available here if you can't wait for 10 minutes. It will take you twice as long to get somewhere decent from Sunnyvale.

Frisco & Allen are exact same way as Plano in that regard, only Sunnyvale and Prosper are 'laid back' but here it's just a synonym for dull and they have to drive to eat and shop in not so laid back cities. That defeats the purpose of saving time.

Your broker is a liar. The only times you'll wait for a table is on a Saturday night in a big box chain. The really good places to eat in Plano are the mom and pop places and they never have a wait.
