Just about any city or town in Texas is going to be very focused on high school football. In many small towns, it brings everyone together for one night a week.

Celina was the team to beat for many years.

Garland High School won the state championship in the 99-00 season.

Garland High School also won the Girls Fastpitch Division 5A Softball State Championship back-to-back for the 2005-2006 and the 2006-2007 seasons!

Trinity HS in HEB ISD has gone won state 5A in past 4 years and has gone to state several other times--area has lots of Tongan families with large sons who love to bang heads together---housing in Bedford/Euless in Trinity's district is definitely more affordable than Southlake's but it is also older and the district itself is not perceived perhaps as successfully as it is...
there are low-socio-economic families in this district--not a lot of new, up-scale housing like Keller has to offer--but school has IB, AP, and G/T programs for accelated studies--has good TAKS scores considering its study body---
my real complaint about Trinity is that there is a decidedly lax discipline policy--kids are allowed to break the district dress code, use of cell phones, tardiness policy--just not a very tight ship because the principal does not like to deal with problem----letting kids use cell phones in the cafeteria, in the halls, (heck probably in the classrooms depending on the teachers) or on open campus right in front of administrators who do nothing is just not what I consider appropriate...there are other things--just think it is too much like a college situation and kids really don't learn discipline necessary to succeed at college...

Yes they did. WOO-HOO Lady Owls. They also have a very strong track team.

I've been told that the Naaman tennis team is going to be pretty good and strong for the next several years.

As far as specific schools............... pick one. Football is important in EVERY school in the metroplex and all of Texas. The only thing I would avoid are the areas that only have 1-3 VERY LARGE schools w/ massive student bodies. It will make it MUCH harder to have your son make the team as the pool to pick from is so much larger and kids that are not dynamite miss out on being able to participate.

I cannot find the rankings on line but each June the Dallas Morning News ranks each high schools sports program (all teams) and the winner receives the All-Sports Award. My dear alma mater, Woodrow Wilson, tied for 6th with Frisco in 4-A. Our point total was higher than 95 other schools in 4 and 5-A. We had the top (rivals.com) football recruit in the nation in 2006 and the top basketball recruit in 2007.

We are a small school located between downtown and White Rock Lake in the Lakewood section. Lakewood is like a small town in the big city, so there are generations since 1928 who have had the same teachers and traditions. Parents are very involved and the community turns out for games. We have had the highest attendance at football games for any Dallas school for many years - Homecoming often sells out.

Also we have something that no other public school has: two Heisman Trophy winners.

Woodrow tries to revive tradition vs. Kimball

By Travis L. Brown ..Dallas Woodrow Wilson has a pedigree of football talent. What is said to be the only high school in the country to produce two Heisman Trophy winners – Davey O’Brien and Tim Brown – didn't have much trouble getting past the first round of the playoffs from the turn of the century until 2006.

Since ’06, times have been a bit rough for the Wildcats, but now they boast one of the best running backs in the Dallas area in Carl Harris, who very well could carry them into a deep playoff run.

In an intra-city Class 4A Division I bi-district matchup, the Wildcats (8-2) take on District 11-4A champion Dallas Kimball (8-2) on Thursday at Dallas' Forester Field.

The game within this game will be between the Woodrow running game against a very strong Kimball defensive front. Coach Bobby Estes said the Wildcats will depend on Harris to be the foundation of their offensive game plan.

“If we get Carl free a little bit and if Carl has the ability to run the ball, we’ll feed off it and hopefully it will open up the passing game,” Estes said. “We’ve had to ride Carl for most of the season and we’ll have to ride him some more tomorrow [Thursday] night.”
