You will probably be bored with the lifestyle in Texas without your kids and family nearby. Not much scenic and entertainment here. Texas is good for young couples raising young children. I moved here to raise my kids, once my kids moved out, I will probably move back on CA.

I think moving here is a mistake. The outdoors here is nothing like SoCal. It's simply not pretty. Everyone suffers crazy allergies due to the wild temperature variations and blooming things. Hello, Mountain Cedar. It's scary hot here in the summers. This is a great place to raise a family- wonderful churches, great schools... Kind people, good restaurants. Beautiful homes. Good luck and welcome.

I love the beach and swimming in big surf. The cold water feels good. But TX beaches are nothing like Lo-Cals beaches.

The DFW area is very big. Where you want to stay is really dependent on where your jobs are.

There are really four main areas in the DFW area that fit your "urban chic" list near water without the club scene.

Dallas - they listed the zip codes. You will have to use google maps to look around.
Legacy in NW Plano. Google "shops legacy plano" to see. There are some locations on the lake.
Las Colinas. See my attached pic.
Fort Worth around the river.

Here is a photo I took from the top of the Omni Mandalay in Las Colinas looking East.

Thank you all for your responses, we have a lot to consider! I know that if this job happens, it will be in Downtown Dallas (whatever that means) so that is a huge reason why we would want to be there. To be clear...I don't need to be near an ocean, lake etc., I simply live by one . AND - I am now officially hoping this job transfer doesn't happen but I'll visit with an open mind hopefully in the summer so I can feel the heat for myself. My daughter has allergies so thank you Skycastle for bringing that up. If I ever hope to get her out there, I need to consider that.
