I'm looking for a small house/condo/townhouse in Rockwall, McKinney or any other place with 30 minutes of Dallas, for a single retired person. My budget is about 150K. I don't need to live near public transportation. I just want a safe and decent area with no riff raff. Family is in 75252 but I'm expanding my search to other places in order to stay within my budget. Please post some links so I can get an idea. Thanks.

You sure are concerned about "riff raff". What does that even mean?

75126 Forney. 20 miles from downtown Dallas and growing rapidly. You can get a brand new house for that price. You can even get it with no down payment until September by going through a USDA loan. Welcome

It's still amusing though. If you only plan on spending 150K on a property in a nicer "city/town" and not out in the sticks, expect to have some lower socio economic people living around you. We are currently in an area that is going through what seems to be an upward swing and houses literally 2 blocks from each other have price tags from 750K+ to under 100K all residing within the same school district. Its part of life in lower priced housing areas.

I kind of love that you find this more helpful. So you don't want to have neighbors who are "not considered to be respectable in character or appearance." Oh very helpful. I certainly know what you consider respectable appearance (sarcasm). What's a criminal? Someone actively engaged in theft? Anyone with a DUI?

You don't have a big budget. You will be living with other poor people. Excuse me, "working class" people. There is no way to segregate yourself away from them and live in cheap housing stock. Welcome to America.

Sorry. Don't wish to engage in a useless argument.

If anyone can help with my original post. I am open to other areas (and links) you can suggest outside of Dallas proper. This would be a part time and second residence so somewhere safe and nice in my price range would be helpful. Thanks.

Good grief, folks...are you really getting hung up on one term? The OP doesn't want to live in an area where it's unsafe. You know what he/she means. I believe she? can find a nice little townhome or condo for that price without having scummy neighbors...and while they may vary according to personal preference, you people get the idea.

Anyway, about ten years ago, I found a little 2 bd/2 bath condo in Rockwall right next to The Harbor (semi close to Chandler's Landing). It was right at $105,000 brand new. Now? I couldn't guess but Rockwall is a nice community. I'm not familiar with McKinney.

OP, I think it depends on if you want brand new or are willing to look for an older (but not too old) home. I know you just have to scour the ads and then start looking. Good luck.

Who really wants to live with " riff raff"? Probably not even other "rif raff".OP has every right to look for safest & nicest neighborhood his/her money can buy. However, its not going to be an easy task, don't get obsessed with new construction. Go with an established neighborhood where you get a good vibe about life. Good luck!
