Good news for residents, or potential residents..Looks like commutes in and out of FloMo will improve now that this project has the green light. Should be a really positive change for the town in general.

Of course it will be a proverbial disaster zone once construction begins however.

It will be done in 2017. And yes, it's gonna be a mess in the meantime...

A bigger mess than the dusty trench that is 635 between 35 and 75?

Kdding of course.

That section of 635 doesn't go through Richardson at all.

Overall, this should help ease the issue that is often brought up about FloMo, which is the getting in and out of that town.

Agreed. Traffic there is a nightmare even on weekends; I won't go anywhere near the place anymore.

Actually it has been much better lately. They added shoulders to make it safer. It flows a lot better now.

But business will start picking back up in 2015 a few years before completion just as business started slowing down a few years in advance of the project.

Actually before the above begins, there will be completion of additional lanes hopefully before September 2013 to change the traffic pattern on 2499/ 121 as part of the DFW connector project.

At the end of 2012, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) received additional funding that will allow NorthGate Constructors to change the traffic pattern near the intersection of FM 2499 and SH 121. Part of this work includes adding an additional lane on southbound SH 121, allowing for a dedicated exit lane for DFW Airport and eastbound SH 114, unlike today. This lane will be extended toward FM 2499, and FM 2499 traffic will no longer have to merge with SH 121 to get to DFW Airport or eastbound SH 114. In the final configuration, southbound International Parkway (into DFW Airport) and eastbound SH 114 will have the following lanes:

# One lane from the southbound SH 121 frontage road at Bass Pro Drive

# One lane from FM 2499

# One lane from westbound IH-635

# One lane from southbound SH 121

If you’re coming out from Flower Mound on FM 2499, you’ll stay to the right to reach DFW Airport or eastbound SH 114. The southbound SH 121 frontage road will also use this new lane to reach DFW Airport and eastbound SH 114. This work will start at the southbound SH 121 frontage road, and will not go any farther north.

The 2499 reconstruction skids929 mentioned is a separate project, fully funded, approved and contract negotiations already completed. The additional lanes for traffic pattern related changes before it begins is a good plan/ pre-work which should ease traffic around grapevine mall during peak hours.
