>>Whatever the school that Erykah Badu went to. <<

She went to Booker T. Washington which also won the state mock trials:

The mock trial team at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts is the winner of the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition. It's the second straight year that a DISD team has won the annual competition — Skyline won it last year.
The contest was held last weekend at the Earle Cabell Federal Building in Dallas. The students will move onto to the national competition held in Philadelphia in May.

Karen Kimball of Dallas: Students and parents show what's right with DISD | Dallas-Fort Worth Local Opinion Columns | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News

"Some were late to the reception because of a one-act play competition; some were involved in rehearsals for Beauty and the Beast, the annual school musical production; and many were preparing for athletic and musical contests.

Their plans for the fall were as varied as their high school activities. One student who had taken up rowing at White Rock Lake only a few years ago had a crew scholarship to the University of Kansas, and there were many other scholarships among the group.

Students laughed with a fourth-grade teacher as they shared memories of a prank they pulled. Often teachers and students share photos of their elementary classes. Mine often speak of the opera my sixth-graders always wrote and performed, and of course, of the music experiences they've enjoyed since that time.

Parents helped provide refreshments and a special favor for each teacher. This parental involvement is another factor that helps make Woodrow unique.

It was great to speak with the father of three former students. Although his daughters have been out of high school for many years, this attorney still gives of his time to serve as volunteer coach for the mock trial team. He proudly shared that one daughter is an attorney in Washington, D.C.; another teaches English in Seoul, Korea; and a third works for a nonprofit in New York City. It was wonderful for me to hear this and remember the song one wrote for a Lakewood musical production and the plate that another had painted for a Christmas gift. I still use it each year – teachers are like that"

Karen Kimball has taught Music at her church since the 1960s and retired after two decades at Lakewood Elementary - she is now a substitute teacher near her home in RISD.

Musical footnotes

By Bruce Felps

"The tradition of stellar musicals continues at Woodrow Wilson High School this week when the curtain goes up on “Beauty and the Beast” at 7:30 p.m., April 15, in the school auditorium.

As the cast and crew put the finishing touches on the show, I thought we’d run down a few side notes associated with the musical.

The first in this long line took place in 1958 when “Oklahoma” started the musical tradition. The show starred Kathy Johnson and Duward Sumner, the latter of whom will take in this year’s performance during the April 16 show, so welcome home Duward..."
