We are looking for a family friendly area with great schools. And, we're in the 200-250k range for housing.

We would like something with as short a commute as possible, but want to be in a nice area with great schools, low crime. Can anybody offer some suggestions?

Lake Highlands is a good area in RISD (Richardson schools) and very close to your job).
Or Old Lake Highlands - Hexter is the elementary in DISD (Dallas).

Loop 12 hits 30 in two different places. Are you talking about East of Dallas or West of Dallas?

I would start with Los Colinas,Hurst,Euless,Beford, or Grand Prairie (area's near the lake). I now there are some fairly new ones off I-30 in Grand Prairie but I don't think I have heard anything about the area be it good or bad. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in. North Oak Cliff would be a perfect fit but I am not sure about the middle and high schools in the area.

The best schools closest to that area for that price range are going to be in Grapevine, Colleyville, Coppell, Keller but these might be a little too far.

You might also want to look at Las Colinas in north Irving.

Good luck.

Stop spouting that B.S. propaganda.

The OP said "family friendly area with great schools". That is the EXACT OPPOSITE of Oak Cliff. Not one single good school, it is not low crime, and not a family friendly area.

This is exactly why I started my "acceptable places" thread because of the bad misinformation on this forum.

He said North Oak Cliff! There is more than one area of Oak Cliff, which you fail, or refuse, to realize. You can't treat one, very large section of the southern part of the city as one neighborhood. There is nothing wrong with living in North Oak Cliff. It is one of the most scenic and beautiful areas of Dallas. There are plenty of families that live there and somehow survive.

There are plenty of families that live and survive in Fair Park, South Central Los Angeles, and Darfur, Africa. What's your point?

I am very familiar with Oak Cliff. ALL of Oak Cliff and Dallas south of I-30 should be avoided. The very nothern parts of Oak Cliff are nice, but it is surrounded on all sides by filth and violent crime.

Name one major grocery store that is in Oak Cliff, besides Fiesta and Carnival. Name one good school in Oak Cliff.

With very few exceptions, the whole area is run down and is a dump.

Hope this helps.
