We are new to the Dallas area and are curious if the cell phone ban applies only during school hours or 24/7. No one I talk to seems to know the answer definitively. Obviously it's a good idea to refrain 24/7 but that is not my question. Thanks.

A school zone is when the lights are flashing for you to slow down. Each area has different times for their school zones, but it's not 24/7 and it's not just during school hours. It's the particular time when the lights are flashing.

It is just during school zones times. The times for each zone are listed on the signs. Many have flashing lights to warn you when the school zone is in effect, but not all if them do, so don't solely rely on them.

My understanding is that it allows you to use cells phones with bluetooth/no-hands technology

As stated above, this is only in effect during the school zone times...generally between 7am - 5pm Mon-Fri. The times are listed on each school zone sign. I'm not sure about the entire area but HPISD sent out an email stating do not touch a cell phone while in a school zone but hands free devices such as Bluetooth is ok.

Welcome to Dallas!
Just wanted to say that in my experience driving 2 kids to 2 different schools every day, the cops are very committed to flagging down and ticketing for this, so be very aware of all the school zones and the times in your neck of the woods. Pretty much every other day I have seen people pulled over for being on their phones here in HPISD, especially the first month or so of school.
Like PlanoGirl said, not all school zones have flashing lights, so if you see a school zone sign just be aware of the times posted right under it.

Thank you all! I was just confused be ause in my town the times are posted and the words "cell phone use prohibited" are written underneath. I just wasn't sure if the 2 signs were mutually exclusive. Thank you for your help.
