It's good to hear two votes for Village Bakery. I had bought croissants from them at White Rock Market and they were nicely baked on the outside and raw on the inside. Hopefully the batch I got was a mistake that has not been repeated.

It's on E. University - go east on University from Greenville, RIGHT before the Dart tracks on the right, is the place. It use to be a Whole Foods bakehouse or something like that.

ETA: Not sure what the OP's bakery is like in Atlanta they are trying to match, but this place has croissants :-)
Another vote for Village Baking! One bite and you'll swear you're in Paris...

Steins has great sandwiches. Central Market for pains.
La Madelaine is ok for lunch...but I don't think worth a special trip for anything.

We don't have either a French , Italian ,Austrian or Polish authentic pastry shop in the area . There is a huge market to take .
That is a bummer.... I did not expect Dallas metroplex not to have it. Entrepreneurs get into action!!!!

I have gone to Stein's bakery and got chocolate muss cake. Stein’s bakery is more traditional American bakery. It was too sweet to my taste.

Also I have gone to Rush. It is a small one woman shop. Samantha is very nice and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu. Seems that she makes mostly to order. I was able to get some macarons that she is famous for. She got a few left from another order. My daughter really liked butter flavor. The selection was very limited (probably because make to order thing) so I cannot attest for other items.

Thank you for all suggestions. Will keep exploring.

Update - I visited Village Bakery, and while it does not have fancy desserts I was looking for it has something very special. It has REAL ATRISAN breads and wonderful pastries. The place looks like a hole in a wall, very small, but what is inside is a treasure. Their sour dough bread is truly sour with wonderful crust. Village Bakery is the place to get real artisan breads.

I havent tried the bakery side yet but Bonnie Ruth's has a bakery embedded in the restaurant in Frisco. The resturant is avg at times but can be great as well other times. The bakery looks interesting but not as much so after a dinner.
