The Frisco building inspection department, like all municipal inspection departments, is unfortunately in a position between the builders/developers and the politicians that does not allow them to protect your best interests. Additionally, they do not work for you, they work for the corporation that is the city. Their job is to protect the interest if the city and not yours.

Very nice Blog post! To bad the construction industry is the way it is. More consumers buying homes do need to take charge as they are the ones that eventually can control the building process through their dollars! If more consumers did as you suggested we could see a change in the building industry.

Many clients are currently paying 4~5 times those fees you quote, for the biggest investment in their lives, per event for in many cases up to 7 inspections.

Final inspections can take as long or longer due to each and every device, all equipment and appliances should be operated through their maximum capacity-full cycles and I would never rely on previously collected data.

The house should be inspected as if I never had prior knowledge as things can change between visits to the site and construction damage or vandalizing does occur.

Just had a pre-drywall where someone had bisected all 4 of the primary condensate lines as they left the attic through the walls. They were still strapped with just the width of a sawzall blade disconnecting the two sections.

Imagine the owner's dilemma when during the first seasonal operation of their air conditioners all 4 units start dumping liquid condensate into the wall cavities running down two stories. AKA latent defect.

Similar damage has required clients to vacate, store all possessions and set up new living quarters during the mold remediation process.

If you'd like more information please feel free to PM
