Hi, first time posting here. I read through a few threads about late 70s Dallas nightclub culture/places to eat etc. It was very helpful information. I'm wondering if those same people could tell me where one would've went back then (78-79) to buy new ("black") music, 45s, Lps, etc. Was there a hip record store everyone knew about and went to for new music back then? If anyone can help with a name or two I would be most gracious for the information.

Thanks in advance for any information you may have and would like to share. And thanks for sharing your memories on here, too. It's fun to read about that era and the people who were living in it.

Sound Warehouse (many locations)
Bill's Records (Spring Valley at Coit)

I didn't listen to "black" music when I was a kid, but those were definitely the best record stores in town. Sound Warehouse was HUGE!

Christie P- thank you for the information. It is very helpful.

As a record collector, I have a few friends who have many stories about Bill's. Napping behind the counter and getting mad when someone asks him to price a record etc. Lol good times. Thanks again.

Bill's was my sister's favorite. She was very much into the new wave/punk music I the 80s and Bill's was THE place for those albums!

I purchased the majority of my music from Sound Warehouse during the late 70's early 80's. There was a place in South Dallas that carried anything and everything. I can't think of the name of the place but they carried blues, jazz, r&B and early hip hop. In the late 80's I shop at a used record store on Greenville (can't remember the name). I would spend a couple of hours going thru those crates looking at vinyl. I love music from the mid 70's to late 80's and still purchase vinyl off Ebay all the time.

My crowd drove from Richland Hills, where we lived, to Peaches Records & Tapes on Fitzhugh Avenue in Dallas.

Wow, didn't realize Bill's was there at Spring Valley/Coit even in the 70's. I knew it was there in the mid 80's.

My 20 yr old son buys records at Dolly Python. There's a booth with a huge selection.

I went to Bills once at the original location. Pretty sure he over charged me for a Bikini Kill CD plus he kinda creeped me out.
